Welcome to a special edition of A Weekly Review! We’ve got a brand new EP that came out yesterday on Blackout Music NL.
This insane EP from Telekinesis came out just yesterday – and I was lucky enough to have access beforehand to check it out.
In my usual Weekly Review fashion, I’m going to chop through each of the four tracks on the EP, and give my thoughts.
- Listen
The first thing that caught my attention about this song was that classic drum break that you can find in so many Drum&Bass songs. It’s like the Wilhelm Scream of D&B, and I love it. The first chorus hit, and instantly presented itself as unique.
The tropical (sort of) sounds in the chorus set it far apart from every other D&B song I’ve heard. It adds a really cool feel. The sound is later replaced by something snappy and very pleasant on the ears, and I love it.
- Play
Definitely my favorite on the EP, ‘Play’ isn’t the hardest hitting (‘Shut Up’ hits harder, I think), but it does have one of the nicer Reese basses I’ve heard.
This one keeps it fun and heavy at the same time, and it’s an instant favorite. The percussion pattern is one after my own heart, and is about the grooviest thing in the world.
- Break
‘Break’ has some nice sounds that are a little different than those used in the other songs. This one is sure to appeal to almost anyone. I consider Drum&Bass to be somewhat of an acquired taste, but this song will make anyone a believer.
- Shut Up
‘Shut Up’ is entirely exciting. It hits harder than any of the others, and I can easily see how this would be many listeners’ favorite song of the four. Personally, though, I’m more of a ‘groove’ listener than an ‘ultra-hard-hitting’ listener, to an extent. This song is more on the side of ‘ultra-hard-hitting’ , but I still dig it.
Regardless of all that, this song is just as clean (or dirty?) as the rest of them, and is an awesome quarter of the EP.
