In this exclusive interview, we sit down with Alden Song, a talented young rising star in the Electronic Dance music world hailing from New York City. With 10 years of professional experience under his belt, Alden’s journey into music began at a young age, influenced by his parents’ involvement in the NYC House music scene. Known for his dynamic DJ sets and original productions that blend classic and modern House music with elements of EDM, Alden has quickly become a sought-after talent.
In this interview, Alden shares insights into his beginnings, his musical inspirations, creative process, memorable performances, and his thoughts on the evolving landscape of Electronic music.
Hi Alden! How are you doing? It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Hey guys, nice to meet you, I’m excited to be here! Thanks for the interview.
Can you share a bit about your musical journey and how you got started in the House music scene?
I’ve been a DJ for 10 years now and a producer for 5, and I got into this because my parents and their friends were all part of the NYC House music scene in the 90’s up until now. So, I have always been around the culture and I just gravitated towards it. My dad is a DJ and he taught me how to DJ. I feel very fortunate to have found music as my passion at such a young age.
What inspires your unique sound and style as a DJ and Producer?
I pull inspiration from everywhere but mainly from other DJs, artists, and musicians. Of course music is what gives me the most inspiration, but I also pull inspiration from other works of art such as paintings and architecture. Certain works make me feel a certain way and it provokes the creative side in me. I also love to see the power of music on the dancefloor and how it affects people which is what I love about DJing.
How do you approach the process of producing original tracks and remixes?
A lot of what I make comes in the moment, whatever inspires me that day is what I make. I just like experimenting with different sounds and whatever works get released. I listen to all kinds of music and it’s always refreshing hearing new things I can incorporate into my Dance tracks. I think being well-versed in all kinds of art is very important.
You’ve performed at some iconic venues and events. Can you share a memorable experience from one of your performances?
Recently I DJed my own birthday party in NYC and that was a very memorable performance because I got to perform a show that I envisioned, and was involved in the production. I got to play the music I wanted to play and all of my friends were there. The moment was unforgettable.
How do you see the relationship between fashion and music in your work, considering your collaborations with brands and performances at fashion shows?
Fashion is a big part of who I am, and being able to DJ fashion shows is great! Fashion is just another outlet for me to express myself and so is music. I see fashion as art and that is incredibly inspiring to me.
What sets your upcoming releases apart from your previous work, and what can fans expect from your new music?
I feel like I’ve finally found a sound and direction that fits where I am these days. I’ve been waiting for this phase of my life. I love the nightclub and festival culture and the energy that exists there. I’ve been lucky to have been around the nightclub scene my whole life. But now, I’m going out, listening to DJs and performers, in a way that I couldn’t before. I feel like this new song of mine is my best work yet. ‘The Feeling’s Right’ is releasing on May 1st and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it! I have been teasing it on social media and you can pre-save it with the link on all my socials. But I have a few tracks in the works I can’t wait to share!
As a young artist with significant industry recognition, how do you stay grounded and continue evolving in your craft?
I love performing and making music and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do in life, it’s not for any other reason. I like to approach everything with the mindset of a learner, so I’m always ready to find new things to try. Also, I have a great support system with my family and friends but honestly, I’m really hard on myself. And like any artist I constantly criticize and question my work and struggle to be satisfied with what I create. That voice in my head is very loud but it also motivates me to keep pushing forward.
What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and Producers looking to break into the Electronic Dance music industry?
Follow your dreams and make sure you work hard! Surround yourself with supporting people and don’t let anyone tell you, you wont make it. I’m still on the grind myself, but I don’t view other DJs and Producers as competition. Let’s all come up and enjoy the fruits of our labor together!
How do you see the future of House music evolving, and where do you see yourself in that landscape?
I only see the genre and the culture growing and evolving. The lines between genres and subgenres have become blurred and are fading away. It’s great to see people more excited about the vibe and the essence of the music rather than labels. I see myself as someone coming up in the scene, who will bring something new to the table and hopefully become one of the greats.
Finally, what message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music
Whether it’s a hard hitting club banger or a feel good singalong festival track, you’re listening to an extension of me. I hope that everyone that listens to my music will stick along for the journey because I believe that with every release my music and sound only gets better!
