Hey Zander Shine, how are you?
I’m great, I was just in Amsterdam last month for ADE and had such a great time and got an opportunity to headline my first show, and also, got to meet up with a bunch of friends.
Can you start by telling us more about yourself?
I’m originally from Paradise Valley, Arizona. I’m a music Producer, songwriter and DJ. I was signed to Universal Music last October and I am just getting a bunch of new music finished up in the studio right now.
Can you remember your earliest musical memory?
My parents got me a piano for Christmas when I was 3 years old, I also remember my parents always playing music for almost every occasion. Whether it was family music night, where would each pick an instrument, or on any vacation we went on, my dad would always bring his guitar or saxophone. It definitely was a very normal thing for musical instruments to always be with us.
What was your journey into Electronic Music like? How did you discover the genre?
I regularly started listening to Electronic music when I got my first radio with speakers, I had a subscription to XM radio and we just constantly have it set on channel 51 and 52, which was BPM and Electric area at the time. That’s how I discovered most of the artists I like, like Avicii, Tritonal, and other popular artists around 2007.
How would you describe your sound and production style?
Progressive House has had the most impactful influence on my taste and style of music that I’ve liked to produce and definitely my favorite to listen to as well.
The most important aspect to me while composing and producing music would be making sure the melody is just right, because to me this is what carries the entire song. I would say my sound and production style varies, but I tend to use the same samples throughout my productions and certain arrangement of FX to give certain elements a cohesive feel, no matter if it’s a Progressive House track or Bass House track.
Can you tell us about your influences and inspirations? Which Artists would you say have had the biggest influence on your production style and sound?
There’s way too many to name, but I’d have to say that Alesso, Avicii, Martin Garrix, and Swedish House Mafia are some artists that I really grew up listening to and got me into producing music in the first place.
Have you had to face any challenges as an Artist? If so, what were they and how did you work to overcome them?
A lesson that I‘ve learned from being in the music industry is to listen to your gut instinct and stay true to yourself no matter what. It’s been a long process to get where I am today, but has been well worth it and I’m excited to see where this path leads me. As far as my brand and artist project, I released my first single earlier this year, and I’m really starting to ramp things up and rapidly develop myself as an artist and going to have a lot more things going in motion later this year into next year, so stay tuned.
Can you tell us an unexpected fun fact about yourself?
I’m 6’4, a national champion in football. Also enjoy surfing and my favorite food is sushi, hands down. I am also a blackbelt in taekwondo.
What about your sound do you think sets you apart from other DJs/Producers within Electronic Music?
I would say something that sets me apart from other artists would be the sound design in my music production. I like to experiment with combining acoustic elements and electronic sound design in my composition, to give my project a unique element. I also have been really into blending genres, and the outcome has been a really great end result.
What are you hoping to achieve next in your musical career?
I’m wanting to tour across America and Europe, that has always been a dream of mine to visit more cities in Europe and play there as well. My first time in Europe was just last month while I was in Amsterdam, I got to play a show while I was there and there are just so many other cities I want to explore.
