With 2023 just around the corner, we wanted to reflect on the highlights of 2022. This time, we invited Jako to tell us more about what this year meant to her, what she learned, achieved and what are her plans for the holidays.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. 2022 is almost over, we want to know what is your most important highlight of the year, both musically and personally?
I had multiple releases on my own record label ‘Love Out Loud’ , I had great main support bookings with Matroda, Chapter & Verse, and Cash Cash. I also finally had the strength to leave a very toxic relationship.
What was your favorite release of 2022 (of your own)?
‘Everybody Needs Somebody’ ft. Stephan Voyce
And what was your favorite track of the year from someone else?
Chapter & Verse – ‘Ya Know it’s Time’
Did you have any special standout shows this year either that you played or attended?
That’s hard. Probably the Matorda & Cash Cash show. I killed it and had a blast!
What was the biggest lesson you learned in life 2022?
Letting go of people and situations that no longer serve you.
And following on, what was the biggest lesson you learned in music?
Don’t overthink what you’re creating. Always be yourself, because there’s know one else like you.
If you could send yourself a message to you 5 years ago, what would it be and why?
Stick to your guns and be YOU!
How has your sound developed in 2022?
Not so much sound, but my new unreleased music I’ve done my own vocals on.
Who would you say was the most innovative artist in 2022?
Too many to say.
Which label or labels do you think where at the top of their game in 2022?
Defected, Insomniac, Box of Cats.
If any, do you have any regrets for the year behind us?
I do not. But there’s always room for improvement.
What are your plans for the holidays?
Chillin’ with family and friends.
Just for fun, if you had to take a classic Christmas song and remix it, what style would it be and what could we expect?
I would remix ‘Jingle Bell Rock’. Tech house style. Toss in my own vocals. That’s a good idea for next year.
Where will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
Honestly, not sure yet.
If you had to put 2022 into one sentence, what would it be?
Innovative, liberating, cleansing, crazy, and a total world wind.
