We asked Jacob Colon more about the behind-the-scenes process of the making of the track.
Hello Jacob, how are you doing?
I’m doing really well. Like always, I’ve been working on new music and collaborating with other artists. My radio show has also picked up a lot of stations recently in different parts of the world, so I’m really happy about the momentum it’s picked up.
‘The Tunnel’ is out, what kickstarted the idea behind this track?
I was going through some samples and started listening to a sample pack from one of my favorite producers Scott Storch. I was really intrigued by the melodies he had on this sample pack and decided to use one of them as a base to start the song with. Once I re-created my own version of sounds that I heard, the flow of the song started coming very smoothly.
Which part of the track did you start with first?
Drums and bass.
What element of the track is signature ‘Jacob Colon style’?
The melody of the song was inspired from a hip-hop sound pack while the bass and drums create an upbeat tribal-tech house drive.
Who was the first person (or people) that listened to the track first besides you, and what was their reaction?
I usually send my tracks to other artists that I have worked with in the past along with non-musicians to get a standard listener perspective.
How would you describe this track in a sentence?
Atmospheric moody vibe with an upbeat rhythm.
Do you have any new tips for aspiring music producers?
Stay focused on your own sound and differentiate yourself as much as possible.
Which artists are on your listening rotation right now?
I have a weekly radio show where I showcase a lot of my favorite tracks that I’ve been playing lately. Full track lists on Mixcloud and 1001tracklists.
How do you keep yourself inspired?
I’m always listening to more music.
What would you like to achieve with this release?
More loyal fans. I appreciate everyone who listens to my music!
