‘Afterglow’ kicks off a new chapter of Able Grey’s career. The song opens with a mini monologue setting the scene for the rest of the track; a mixture of relaxation and thought combined with energetic and danceable electronic music. A melancholy piano follows the monologue immediately creating a mood of introspection. Vocal choirs and slow plucks slowly turn into ear catching orchestral hits and builds. You are then hit with a very familiar indie electronica/future bass drop. The second verse mirrors the first with a slightly higher choir appearing over everything. The second drop is where you are caught by surprise as arps and basses fill your ears in ways that seem glitchy yet bouncy and welcoming. The song ends with a slow fading away of sound as we are brought back into our real world.
