Salt Cathedral CARISMA – Salt Cathedral release their anticipated debut album CARISMA on Ultra Music. CARISMA is a collection of songs in English and Spanish that play in the adventurous edges of pop & electronic music with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, entrancing melodies, and an unguarded and defiant mix of wonder and vulnerability. Salt Cathedral’s music presents an optimistic vision of our globalized world that is rooted in tradition but always pushes towards the future that has been praised by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NPR, Fader, Remezcla, NYLON and others. Listen to CARISMA.
Salt Cathedral’s fanciful “a lifetime with you” opens the album with an unselfconscious declaration of love over a spirited rhythm that swells along with the vocal. The jubilant and romantic “Rudeboy”, comes in with a relaxed dancehall inspired groove that underscores the song’s theme of wanting to feel electric and alive. That dreamy sense of joy runs throughout the album. The playful “muévelo” finds Juli daring someone to take the jump with her and dance into the night and is also a tongue-in-cheek nod to reggaeton precursor El General’s 1991 classic “Muévelo, Muévelo”. The just released “How Beautiful (she is)” featuring duendita and MC Bin Laden breezes in like a rush of air-conditioning on the hottest day of summer with a baile-funk inspired beat and verses in English and Brazilian Portuguese that affirm that we all have the power to define beauty for ourselves. “Paris” juxtaposes a driving beat with a heartbroken melancholia and a longing for escape. “Te Quiero Olvidar” has an ethereal nostalgic quality in the production that mirrors Juli’s verses where she’s overcoming heartbreak and trying to forget someone but also demanding they forget her as well. The album’s closing track “CAVIAR” is an impassioned rejection of materialism in relationships and a celebration of the liberation that comes with it. CARISMA is an invitation into the world of Salt Cathedral where following your bliss and creation is rebellion and there is always room for another comrade.
