We’re fast becoming big fans of UK drum and bass artist Need For Mirrors. Just recently he gave us the wicked Royal Blood EP, and now he delivers two tracks in one for Ram Records. Sharp and sonically stunning, ‘Arp Tune’ and ‘Reverie’ both deserve your attention.
The building, anthemic chords and immersive bassline of ‘Arp Tune’ hooked us straight in. Advancing the melodic top-line as the low-end energy ripples, this one is aimed directly for a club floor. ‘Reverie’ is another awesome listen. Pattering, quivering electronic bleeps and honed breaks keep you guessing throughout.
Need For Mirrors says of this release: “Arp Tune’ spawned from my love of techno. I wanted to have a tune in my bag that bridged the gap from club to the big room stadium anthems, but was understated. ‘Reverie’ was influenced by old ‘Sincere’ era MJ Cole and garage. I’m a sucker for that feeling in the string arrangement! As the track progressed it started to feel more euphoric; the arp that comes in later in this tune reminded me of Origin Unknown’s ‘Valley Of The Shadows’ in a very odd way. Nostalgia!”
