London Future‘s blend of warm, tropical-tinged sounds make for the dreamiest listens. We are still loving his recent ‘Know Better,’ which features vocals from singer SYMON, so decided to hear more about it from this talented producer and DJ.
Do you remember what first got you into making music? How do you feel your sound and influences have changed along the way?
It all started when I wanted to figure out what goes into making the sounds that I heard on the radio as child. I was only 14 years old when I started trying to make beats. That quickly turned into a career, and by 18 I made my first check as a producer.
What would you say your style is all about?
I would say my style is a mix of everything, with a bit of Caribbean music. I’m always inspired by new music, so I find it very hard to stick to one style when music is changing all the time. I draw a lot of inspiration from rap music.
Which tunes are you particularly feeling right now?
I’m currently feeling a lot of music coming out of the South Americas. That whole “Mi gente” wave is crazy right now. It’s always appalling to see all the world dance to music they don’t always understand.
What did you enjoy about making your new track ’Know Better’? Where did the making of it first start?
I always enjoy the creative process behind all of my songs. I created the song with a song writer and artist from Barbados named Kristen Walker (really good artist, check her out). We were in LA and had a brief session that sparked the initial idea. SYMON and I later finished the track.
How did you first hear about SYMON? Did you know straight away you wanted her to be a part of the single?
I heard her music through Spotify and knew right away. Within 2 weeks we had the song completed and ready to go.
What have been the most fun parts of the year for you?
I had the most wild summer in Ibiza this summer with close friends. I look forward to doing that every year.
What advice would you give a producer just starting out?
Attitude and passion are key, for sure. It’s all about having that drive and not giving up, keep pushing the boundaries.
What are you looking forward to achieving as London Future going in to 2018?
I’d really like to have a Number 1 hit some day. It’s the ultimate challenge; making music that connects to the average listener on such a huge scale. I think coming from the Caribbean, it’s a lot easier now to make it happen with the whole Caribbean wave that’s taking over.
