A DJ and producer from the UK who has been in the scene for over three years, Olly James has quickly risen the ranks in the EDM industry. With multiple releases on Spinnin’ Records, Revealed Recordings and Armada accompanied by shows throughout the world, it’s no wonder James has become quite the revered artist!
Olly, your career really began around 2013 with official release ‘Sphinx,’ with a variety of other releases to follow two years later. Looking back at your career so far, what has it been like rising the way you’ve been and honing your skills as a DJ and producer?
It’s been an amazing journey so far, not an easy one by any means, but an amazing one. I feel so lucky to have had the support I’ve had over the years, from the fans, labels, promoters & also my management, who have all helped me get to where I am today.
Fast forward years later, you’ve collaborated with artists like MOTi, VINAI, Kenneth G and more. You’ve clearly been moving speedily, with monthly releases on international recognized labels and bookings throughout the world.
Now, you’re just about to release your new Phenom EP. What can you tell fans about what they can expect?
This EP is something a little different from me, as recently I have been producing a lot of different genres in order to expand my production ability and I think it translates into the EP. After developing a name from producing big room, I really hope the fans enjoy the slight adaptation to my style.
What are your inspirations and the creative process when creating the extended play? What does the EP reflect about you and your career?
To be honest I was really inspired by trap when producing ‘BAD,’ as recently I’ve been looking further afield for my inspiration, rather than just listening to big room & electro house. I think the EP reflects that I’m dedicated to finding new sounds & developing not just myself as a producer, but helping to develop the Genre of EDM.
You’ve had a thriving career, with a myriad of releases and an exciting journey worldwide. I’m sure that without a doubt, fans all around the globe will be looking forward to this new upcoming EP. I want to thank you for chatting with us and would like to end today’s interview with one last question!
Looking back at your career, what are you most proud of and is most memorable? Also, what can fans look forward to, past the EP and as we get closer to 2018?
My proudest and most memorable moment has to be playing at Tomorrowland this year, it was literally a dream come true being asked to perform at such an iconic festival, the crowd were so energetic it was amazing. There’s still a lot of new music to release this year including one of my most requested ID’s with Blasterjaxx, which we started in 2015 haha. 2018 will be filled with new music, a lot of crazy shows & hopefully meeting more of my fans!
