Out today is the wonderful new single from The Wild – ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth.’ Brimming with serene musicality and deliciously infectious, we got to hear more about the making of it in this exclusive interview, which you can check out below.
Do you remember what first got you into making music? How do you feel your sound and influences have changed along the way?
The influences that got me into making music go back to the likes of Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Morcheeba, Basement Jaxx, Zero 7 & Groove Armada. They’re some of the big reasons I decided to explore electronic music. To me they represent a very down to earth and organic sense of electronic music that will continue to be remembered amongst the mass of accessible music today. My own sound has adapted to blend with more recent electronic music trends but I like to think I have an individual stamp that reflects the original influences.
What would you say your style encompasses?
I would say the overall sound of The Wild is a mixture of popular dance/progressive/electronic/trap. Following this release I have a range of up-tempo & down-tempo tracks as I want to keep things fresh and interesting.
You hail from the UK – which other fellow UK artists do you dig right now?
Love the likes of Mura Masa, Jonas Blue, Sub Focus, Disciples at the moment.
What did you particularly enjoy about making ‘Heaven is A Place On Earth?’ How did the creative process work between you and Norma Jean Martine?
I loved working with Norma’s voice on this classic rework as it brings some real depth and soul to give a very different vibe from the original. The soft, deep vocals were a great contrast to the melodic, electronic mood of the music.
What do you personally like about this track?
I personally love the chorus build into the pre-drop melody and the way the track drops into the main impact. It’s difficult at the best of times to get a track like this to gel and work effectively, but it feels like all the elements are working together well here this time 😉
You’ve remixed some huge names in your career – do you have anymore on the horizon right now?
I certainly do, all will be revealed soon…
How has your summer been so far, and what else are you looking forward to in the coming months?
Summer has been great so far as I have a track I co-wrote and produced for Matoma & the Vamps new single being released later this month. Also a track I co-wrote for Hardwell is out very soon! Looking forward I have so much new stuff to come.
