One of the most well known names in the EDM world is Avicii. The Swedish superstar who has reached worldwide success with his music and his latest album ‘True’ that ended up on top-lists all around the world is now busy finishing his second solo album. But the way his music sounds today is nowhere close to what it sounded like back in 2011, when he released ‘Levels’.
The past few years have been full of success for Avicii, and he keeps going further. He just reached over 19 million followers on Facebook, as well as ‘For A Better Day’ and ‘Pure Grinding’ just being released. But there’s one thing that got me thinking, what happened with Avicii? What happened with his old sound and why has his music changed so much?
Let’s compare ‘Levels’ with ‘Pure Grinding’. ‘Pure Grinding’ is his latest production. It’s a track that slowly starts with a heavy beat that transforms to a drop with lots of bass and even more heavy beats. It’s a good track, nothing bad about it at all, but it’s the total opposite to ‘Levels’. No one could have seen that coming. From mainstream dance music to ‘Country House’ (his own type of house) to something that reminds me of mainstream hip-hop. It’s a big and hard change, and it only took him five years. Personally I like artists that do things their own way and artists that are not afraid of trying new things. But you can’t help but wonder if it’s for the money an artist like Avicii makes huge changes.
What do you think? Is it for the money or for the love to the music?
We will hear new Avicii music in October, when the Swedish producer and DJ releases his second solo-album. Stay tuned on EDM Joy more future information about that, and if you haven’t already, you can check out the music video for ‘For A Better Day’ & ‘Pure Grinding’ below.
